for your rabbit
Handling
We rabbits like to be handled every
day. Of course, we're a bit scared to start with,
but we soon learn to enjoy it. Always put a hand
under our rear end for support, that's where all
the weight is. But, pull my ears and i`ll not
be very happy!
The Hutch
Don't put us in tiny hutches. How
would you like it? We want lots of space to eat
and drink and a separate place to sleep. Make
sure you put us in a sheltered position off the
ground. Against a wall is quite nice. You can
buy them, but why not build us one!
Feeding
Don't fiddle
about with our food. We can get really ill if
you do. The food called "Russell Rabbit"
is great and contains everything we need. But,
we'll decide how much we want, so leave a fresh
supply around all the time. And don`t forget the
water . . . !
Cleaning
We tend
to be a bit messy, but that's the way we are.
Our sleeping area can be changed twice a week,
but the rest of the hutch needs a thorough clean
out every day. It's a good time to check our droppings.
They should be quite hard and dark. If not, we're
probably going down with something, so get help.
The Vet
Now, that's
one person we want to see every year for a check-up.
We can also have our vaccination against Myxomotosis
& VHD. Your vet is always there If we're not
well, but don't forget that they can give you
loads of really useful information and advice.
So, there's no excuse for getting it wrong. Keep
their telephone number in a safe place for emergencies.
Bedding
We like
our bedding to be clean and dry. Straw is ideal
for us to sleep in, and you can get small packs
of this from your pet shop. But best of all use
the special bedding named `Russel Rabbit Bedding`.
Made from a super threshed barley straw it`s incredibly
soft, and it smells good too, because it's — been
treated with an organic disinfectant. We like
hay to nibble on but if you are feeding us Russel
Rabbit, this is not essential, If our bedding
gets damp, wet or smelly, please clean it out.
Health Check
Give
us the once over every time you pick us up. Make
sure that we're squeaky clean around the eyes
and ears, not to mention under the old tail. Our
teeth keep growing and can get a bit long, especially
the front ones. Check our nails as well, they
can get a bit long too. You`ll need the vet to
trim our teeth, but cutting our nails is not difficult.
